Contact process in a wedge
We prove that the supercritical one-dimensional contact process survives in certain wedge-like space-time regions, and that when it survives it couples with the unrestricted contact process started from its upper invariant measure. As an application we show that a type of weak coexistence is possible in the nearest-neighbor “grass-bushes-trees” successional model introduced in [5].
متن کاملNUMERICAL INVESTIGATION OF CRACK ORIENTATION IN THE FRETTING FATIGUE OF A FLAT ROUNDED CONTACT
The growth of slant cracks by fretting fatigue of a half plane in contact with a flat rounded pad was studied. The mode I and mode II stress intensity factors for cracks of various lengths and directions were calculated using the semi-analytical method of the distribution of dislocations, and their cumulative effect on the crack growth was investigated using the strain energy density criterion....
متن کاملDomain decomposition method for contact problems with small range contact
A non-overlapping domain decomposition algorithm of Neumann–Neumann type for solving variational inequalities arising from the elliptic boundary value problems in two dimensions with unilateral boundary condition is presented. We suppose that boundary with inequality condition is ‘relatively’ small. First, the linear auxiliary problem, where the inequality condition is replaced by the equality ...
متن کاملA domain decomposition algorithm for contact problems with Coulomb’s friction
Contact problems of elasticity are used in many fields of science and engineering, especially in structural mechanics, geology and biomecanics. Many numerical procedures solving contact problems have been proposed in the engineering literature. They are based on standard discretization techniques for partial differential equations in combination with a special implementation of non-linear conta...
متن کاملAn explicit analytical solution for sound propagation in a three-dimensional penetrable wedge with small apex angle.
A problem of sound propagation in a shallow-water waveguide with a weakly sloping penetrable bottom is considered. The adiabatic mode parabolic equations are used to approximate the solution of the three-dimensional (3D) Helmholtz equation by modal decomposition of the acoustic pressure field. The mode amplitudes satisfy parabolic equations that admit analytical solutions in the special case of...
